The short version
Perch reads and writes your Apple Reminders on your Mac. There is no account system, no app backend, and no in-app analytics. We can’t see your reminders because we built no way to receive them. The marketing site uses Pirsch for cookieless, aggregate page-view stats and a few anonymous interaction events; we explain exactly what that does and doesn’t include below.
Who we are

What this policy covers
This policy applies to the Perch macOS app. It also covers your use of the marketing site at https://perch.madebysoandso.com. The website uses cookieless, aggregate analytics through Pirsch (described in “Website analytics” below), and runs no other third-party scripts.
What the app collects
Inside Perch, we collect almost nothing. Specifically:
- No account or sign-up. No name, email, password, or phone number.
- No analytics or tracking SDKs. No Firebase, no Mixpanel, no Segment, no advertising identifiers, no device fingerprinting.
- No networking of any kind from the app. No crash reporting sent to any third party.
- No third-party services beyond Apple’s platform services described below.
There is no Perch server receiving information from your Mac. We are technically incapable of seeing your reminders.
Reminders access
When you first use Perch, macOS asks for Reminders access. If you allow it, Perch can read and write reminder titles, notes, dates, priorities, and lists through Apple’s EventKit APIs so you can glance, add, edit, and complete items from the menu bar. All of that happens on your device. Reminder contents never leave it through Perch.
If you use iCloud Reminders, Apple syncs them under Apple’s terms. That sync is yours and Apple’s, not ours. Perch does not run its own sync and never sees iCloud traffic.
To revoke Reminders access:
- Open System Settings.
- Go to Privacy & Security → Reminders.
- Find Perch and turn access off.
What Perch stores on your device
- App preferences: settings such as your global hotkey, menu-bar display (icon, count, or next title), launch at login, and related options.
Preferences live in local storage on your Mac and are not sent to us. Your reminders themselves stay in Apple’s Reminders store (and iCloud, if you use it), not in a separate Perch database.
Purchases and distribution
When you get Perch from the Mac App Store, Apple handles payment, billing, and refunds. so & so never sees payment cards, billing addresses, or your Apple Account name as part of that process. Purchase and receipt checks run through Apple on your device.
App Store privacy label
In App Store Connect, Perch is declared as Data Not Collected. On-device access to Reminders is not collection under that label when nothing is transmitted to us or a partner.
Third-party services
The Perch macOS app uses no third-party SDKs, analytics libraries, advertising networks, or crash reporting services. The only external parties involved are Apple (for App Store distribution and optional iCloud Reminders sync you control) and, for the marketing site only, our hosting provider and Pirsch (the aggregate page-view stats described in “Website analytics” below). Apple’s privacy practices are governed by their own policy at apple.com/privacy; Pirsch’s by pirsch.io/privacy.
Website analytics
We use Pirsch on the marketing site to see which pages are getting read and where visitors arrive from. It is deliberately minimal:
- No cookies. Nothing is written to your browser by Perch for analytics.
- No personal data we can use to identify you. Pirsch does not store your IP address, name, or email.
- Aggregate only. We see counts, page views, top pages, top referrers, and a few anonymous interaction events (for example which App Store button was clicked, a contact link, or which FAQ question was opened). No event includes personal data.
No other analytics, advertising, or tracking scripts run on the site, and none run inside the Perch app.
This data never touches the Perch app or your reminders. If you’d rather not be counted at all, browsers like Safari and Firefox, and most ad-blocker or privacy extensions, will block the script on request.
Links to the Mac App Store or madebysoandso.com leave this site; those destinations have their own policies.
Data retention and deletion
All Perch reminder data lives in Apple Reminders on your device (and, if you use iCloud Reminders, in your own Apple iCloud account). You can:
- Edit or delete reminders inside Perch or Reminders.app.
- Turn off Reminders access in System Settings (steps above).
- Delete the app to remove Perch’s local preferences on that Mac.
- Manage iCloud Reminders data from System Settings → Apple ID → iCloud, under Apple’s controls.
Because we operate no app servers and store nothing about your reminders on our end, there is no server-side deletion to request for the app.
If you email us, we keep only what we need to answer you. Website analytics are held by Pirsch on our behalf under their retention practices.
Children’s privacy
Perch is not directed at children under 13. The app collects no personal data from anyone, so it does not knowingly collect anything from children either. The App Store age rating reflects this.
International users
Perch is available worldwide. Because reminder data is processed on your device (and, if iCloud Reminders is on, in your own Apple iCloud account), it stays within your jurisdiction for our purposes. We operate no app servers and transfer no reminder data internationally.
Where laws such as the GDPR (EU), UK GDPR, or CCPA (California) grant you rights over personal data, those rights apply to whatever personal data exists. In Perch’s case on the app side, that’s nothing held by us. For the marketing site, contact us and we will help where we can with analytics held by Pirsch on our behalf.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this privacy policy, we will post the updated policy on this page. We will not change how we handle your data in a way that makes it less private.
